Rebels Weekend Wrap- Jan 15-17

Rebels Athletics are back in full swing this winter term with all four basketball and volleyball teams in action.

The Men’s Volleyball team continue their up and down season, splitting a pair of games this week. They first hosted the CMU Blazers on Jan 12th for a rare Tuesday night match-up, quickly dispatching the Blazers 3-0 (25-21, 25-, 25-22). Then on Friday night, the Rebels were on the other side of a quick game, losing to the PUC Pilots 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 28-26). The Rebels currently sit in 2nd place with a 7-4 record. The Women’s Volleyball team are still looking for their first MCAC victory of the year, losing to CMU on Tuesday 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) and were swept by PUC on Friday 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-23).

Both volleyball teams host the USB Rouge Friday January 22nd in the North Gym starting at 6pm, men’s game at 7:30pm and the women travel to the UW Wesmen on Saturday the 23rd for a 1:00pm contest.

The Women’s Basketball team is starting to gain momentum, earning a pair of victories over the weekend. On Friday they beat an overmatched Wesmen team 68-24, Lindsay Young lead all scorers with 14 points and added 9 rebounds. The Rebels then followed up with a big 70-48 win over PUC on Saturday. Lacey Finnbogason lead the team with 19 points while Young added 17 of her own. The Rebels move into second place with a 4-3 record. The Men’s hoops team hoped this weekend was when they turned the corner on their season. They earned their first victory of the year on Friday, edging out the Wesmen 86-78. Gliff Macalau had a monster game scoring 29 points on 11/25 shooting. Veteran Taylor Brown added 19 points and 8 rebounds. The Rebels followed this up with a hard fought loss to the Pilots on Saturday, 84-71. Taylor Brown had another strong game, scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The basketball teams host CMU Saturday January 23rd, with the women’s game starting at 1:00pm, men’s game at 3:00pm
