The Rebels Basketball teams finish their first half of the regular season on a sour note, losing both games to the Providence University Pilots at home in the North Gym.
For the women it was a nail-bitter, a 62-60 Overtime loss to a scrappy Pilots team. The Rebels jumped out to a 20-4 lead to start the game but ended up trailing by two after the 3rd quarter. The Rebels then regained the lead only to have the Pilots hit a last second jumper to tie the game and send it to OT. In overtime, the Pilots used a stifling defense to frustrate the Rebels, leading to multiple turnovers and fast break points. Jodene Kowalchuk had a strong game for the Rebels scoring 23 points, while forward Lindsay Young had a monster first game of the season scoring 11 points and huge 20 rebounds. The Rebels finish the first of half of the season with a 2 and 3 record and in third place.
The Rebels men’s team continue to look for their first win of the season, losing to PUC 91-70. The Pilots led from start to finish, relying on some excellent guard play and three point shooting to defeat the Rebels. Ezekial Lerner led the Rebels with 20 points on 8/11 shooting and six rebounds. Garnett McLeod also had a strong game with 13 points and 8 rebounds. The Rebels hope to grow of these two strong performances in the New Year.
