Rebels Weekend Wrap-International Edition

Busy weekend for all 6 Rebels teams, competing both at home and in across the border in North Dakota.

The men’s volleyball team took a huge step forward defeating the former number 1 ranked and previously undefeated Providence University Pilots 3-2 (22-25, 21-25, 28-26, 25-16, 15-11). Middles Jarrell Taylor Babb and Brett Lowe led the offense while Morgan Macfarlane provide some key defensive plays. With the win, the Rebels improved to 5-1 in MCAC play and are in first place. The women’s volleyball team continue to look for their first win of the season, losing to the Pilots on Friday PUC 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-14), and the University of Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday UW 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-20). Both teams finish the first half of the regular season at CMU on Tuesday, November 24th.

WFutsal Grasslands Cup Champs 2015After winning the 2015 MCAC Women’s Soccer Championship, the Rebels add another trophy to the shelf, capturing the inaugural Grasslands Cup, hosted by CMU. They started the first of 3 round robin games with a 10-1 victory over CMU.  Scorers Kaelyn Vincent with 6, Kira Smedvik 2, Kelsie Paul 2. Game 2 was a 4-4 tie vs Ambrose U Lions (Calgary).  Scorers Kaelyn 2, Kira 1, Stephanie Morris 1. The Rebels game out flat in game three, losing to BU 8-1 Jessica Lister scoring the long goal. The Rebels rebounded in the Championship Game, and gained revenge with a 4-3 win over the same BU Bobcats.  Scorers Kaelyn 3, Lacey Finnbogason 1.  MVP of the Championship game was Emeraude Kwilu for her outstanding defensive performance. Unfortunately the men’s team had disappointing tournament, losing all 3 games, 9-5 vs CMU, 3-2 vs Ambrose, and 6-4 to CMU. Striker Caesar Carvalho provided a bright spots scoring 3 goals in the first game.

Finally, both Rebels basketball teams made the trip down to Bottineau, North Dakota for a pair of exhibition games. The men’s team faced one of the top Junior College programs in America, losing to Dakota College 138-59. They then lost a hard fought contest to Leech Lake Tribal College 103-89. The women’s team also gained valuable experience early in this season, losing to Dakota 75-62 and Leech Lake 92-57. Both teams have their home openers Friday November 27th against the CMU Blazers. Both games will be live streamed on Youtube on the RRC Rebels account, women’s game starting at 6pm.
