Mixed results for the Red River College Athletic teams with all four volleyball and basketball squads in MCAC league play.
In basketball, the Rebels women’s team improved their MCAC record to 2-1 with a 49-42 victory over the Providence University College Pilots. Raven Boulanger was the top scorer for the Rebels with 17 points, Jodene Kowalchuk also had a strong game contributing 8 points and 8 rebounds to the win.
The Pilots were then able to exact some revenge in the following game with the men’s team defeating the Rebels 80-61. Garnett McLeod led the Rebels by scoring 18 points and gathering 7 rebounds while Arsalan Zaheer chipped in with 17 points in a losing effort.
Both Rebels basketball teams leave the country and head to Bottineau, North Dakota this upcoming weekend for a pair of exhibition games each against Dakota College and Leach Lake Tribal College, two NJCAA schools.
The Rebels men’s volleyball team had a strong weekend, winning both games. They swept the Assiniboine Community College Cougars Friday night at home 3-0(25-8,25-17,25-19) and beat Universite St.Boniface in exhibition play on Saturday 3-0(25-13,25-14,25-23). With the pair of victories, the Rebels sit in second place with 2-1 MCAC record. The women Rebels are still looking for their first victory of the year after being swept on Friday by ACC 3-0(25-8,25-19,25-17) and losing a heart-breaker to Les Rouges on Saturday, 3-2(25-27,19-25,25-7,25-22,15-4). Both teams host Providence Friday November 20th, 6:00pm start for the women’s game, and then travel to CMU to face the Blazers Saturday November 21st with another 6:00pm start.
