Before enjoying Thanksgiving Holiday Monday, three Rebels teams competed on the weekend in both Soccer and Volleyball with some mixed results.
The Women’s Rebels Soccer teams kept their MCAC regular season record perfect with a 3-0 victory over the CMU Blazers on Saturday. League leading scorer Jessica Lister (12 goals) scored twice in the win with Kelsie Paul (5 goals in the season) adding another. Coach Doug Lawrie’s player of the game was Paige Procter. The Centre-back played a key role in limiting CMU to 1 shot on net for the game. The Rebels finish the regular season on Sunday October 18 hosting the PUC Pilots.
The Men’s Rebels Soccer team weekend was not as successful, earning only a point in two games. On Saturday the tied CMU 1-1 on the strength of Paulo Nunnemacher’s 4th goal of the season. Unfortunately they were unable to build on the draw with the Blazers, as they were shutout 3-0 on Sunday by St.Boniface. The Rebels currently sit in fifth place, one spot out of the playoffs with two games remaining this weekend, hosting St. Boniface on Saturday and PUC on Sunday. If the Rebels can earn a pair of victories, then the MCAC playoffs will be in their future.
Finally, RRC hosted the Annual Rebels Invitational Men’s Volleyball tournament over the weekend. The host Rebels finished in 4th place, losing to CMU 2-1 (20-25,25-23,25-21) in the third place game. The tournament was won by the RRC Alumni team, who defeated PUC in the final 2-1 (30-28,16-25,25-23).
