The Rebels Women’s Soccer team continued their excellent start to the MCAC season, with a pair of wins on the weekend. The Rebels hosted second place Brandon University on Saturday, and were able to escape with 1-0 win. With a strong southerly wind the entire game, the Rebels took advantage in the first half, controlling the majority of play and reigning MCAC Athlete of the Week Jessica Lister scoring the only goal of the game. The Rebels withstood a strong attack from the Bobcats in the second half, including numerous saves by goalkeeper Addison Zeltins and a hit crossbar late in the game to secure the win. The Rebels then travelled to Shilo to face Assiniboine Community College on Sunday, earning a 6-1 victory of the Cougars. Kaelyn Vincent and Kelsie Paul led the attack with two goals each. With the pair of wins on the weekend, the Rebels keep their record perfect at 5-0 and a stranglehold on first place in the MCAC.
The Rebels Men’s Soccer team had mixed results this past weekend, first losing to BU 4-0 on Saturday. With the wind in the first half, the Rebels were unable to generate enough offense to score any goals, while in the second half the Bobcats took full advantage of the wind scoring three quick goals in the middle part of the half. The Rebels rebounded on Sunday defeating the ACC Cougars 5-0. Cesarn Carvalho and Derek Tessier both scored a pair in the win. The Rebels currently sit with a 2-1-2 record, good for fourth place.
Both teams are back in action on this weekend hosting the ACC Cougars on Sunday at noon on the NK Fields.
