All six Rebels sports teams were in action this weekend across the province proudly representing Red River College as student-athletes.
In basketball, the women’s team clinched first place in the MCAC with a 74-42 win over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. The women’s record improves to 11-2 in league play. The men’s team suffered it’s first loss of the year, now with a 12-1 record, losing to the Wesmen 67-54. They had already clinched first place for the playoffs, which take place at Canadian Mennonite University February 14-15. Both teams next league matches occur Saturday January 31st at home against CMU starting at 6PM in the North Gym.
For volleyball, two different stories for the men’s and women’s teams. The men remain undefeated in the MCAC, 13-0, after beating Providence University College Pilots 3-1(25-16,16-25,25-17,25-15). The men’s team has clinched the number one seed for the MCAC playoffs, February 21-22 at Assiniboine Community College(Brandon). The women’s team dropped both matches this weekend to PUC 3-0(5-25,13-25,12-25) and UW 3-0(16-25,16-25,18-25) to fall to 3-11 on the season. Both teams are in action this Friday against the St.Boniface Rouge at home starting at 6PM, with the women hosting UW at noon and 2:30PM on Saturday.
The Futsal season got underway in Brandon this weekend with ACC hosting the first stage of the MCAC season. The women’s Rebels won all three games defeating PUC 8-5, USB 8-1 and ACC Cougars 4-3. The men’s team also did well, finishing with a 2-1 record defeating PUC 4-2 and ACC 11-1, while losing to USB 8-6. Next stage for both teams is February 7th and 8th at USB.
