December 2, 2014

The Red River College Men’s team was dominant this past weekend in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, winning every set played, en route to capturing the Western Canadian Volleyball Open.

The men’s team went a perfect 6-0 in round robin, defeating the St.Boniface Rouges, Saskatoon Amaruks, and Great Plains Sundogs two sets a piece. They then rolled through the playoff round defeating the Moose Jaw Panthers (25-21,25-15) the ACC Cougars (25-17,16) in the semis and the CMU Blazers (25-21,25-23) in the Championship Final. The Rebels Kevin Bommersbach was named Tournament MVP.

The women’s team did not fare as well, finishing their round robin in 4th place after losing to Prince Albert (17-25,25-21,15-7) ACC (24-26,13-25) and beating the Prairie Pilots (20-25, 25-22,18-16) and the Great Plains Sundogs (25-14,25-13). They were then eliminated in the quarterfinals by the eventual Tournament Champions St.Boniface Rouges (24-26,25-15).

Both teams return to MCAC league play Saturday January 10th at St.Boniface.
