Rebels Futsal Teams Look Strong after First Stage of MCAC Play

January 25, 2014

The Rebels Women’s Futsal team came into this weekend hoping for a strong showing, and that is what they delivered. The Rebels finished with a 2-1 record, including an impressive 8-1 victory over St.Boniface College Saturday night. The team had defeated CMU 7-3 Friday night, and lost a close one to ACC 2-1 on Saturday morning.

Coach Doug Lawrie “I was very pleased with the play of the team, deep or short bench in all three games. The players worked hard, executing the system we;ve been working on in pre-season game and practices very well. Special mentions must be made to Chelsea Laham who scored 10 goals in three games and our two goalkeepers, Amy Reimer and Brittany Postnikoff, they really stepped up this weekend.”

The Rebels Men’s team also found some success this weekend, finishing with a 1-2 record. After losing their first game 3-1 to CMU Friday night, they were able to rebound with a 3-2 win over ACC Saturday afternoon. They finished with a 3-0 lost to USB Saturday evening.

Five MCAC schools participated in the 1st stage of the season (RRC, CMU, Providence University College, St.Boniface College and Assiniboine Community College). The season consists of three tournaments, finishing with championship weekend, March 15-16 at CMU.
