Each course is designed to help you read, write and speak Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe/Salteaux), and to increase your understanding of its social, cultural and historical significance — in Canada and abroad.
Anishinaabemowin Language and Culture 1:
This course is designed for non-speakers to semi-fluent speakers. You will focus on the knowledge and application of the basic structure of the language using Anishinaabe cultural perspectives and knowledge as the context and content. In order to develop basic language skills, you will participate in dialogue, question and response, Total Physical Response, Picture-Word Induction, technology and immersion.
Anishinaabemowin Language and Culture 2:
After completing the introductory level course — or if you are already an intermediate to fluent speaker of Anishinaabemowin — you will be ready to take this course. You will become familiar with the various orthographies of the Anishinaabemowin language and be aware of the dialectal differences in phonetics and semantics. Emphasis will be placed on reading and writing to build up your proficiency in identifying and applying grammatical structures and elements of the Double Vowel System.
