Assessment for visa students studying EAL
Students with a study permit, who are enrolling in programs at the Language Training Centre, are required to have an English language assessment to ensure you are placed in the
appropriate program for your language level.
Students entering into the Intensive English for International Students program do not require a previous language assessment such as IELTS or TOEFL prior to beginning studies at Red River College. Intensive EAL students are tested on-site and placed in one of the many levels of this program.
The language assessment used at the LTC is the Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT). The CLBPT is used only for placement into English classes. It is a test of English language communication skills.
You will be asked to arrive at least 2 weeks before the start of your program. Early arrival is important so that there will be time to arrange for your language assessment.
