Upgrade Windows 10 to version 1709

An updated version of Windows 10 is now available in Software Center. The upgrade process takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Please allow this time for the process and schedule it according to your availability.
Your computer will restart several times throughout the install process. This is a normal function of the upgrade.

IMPORTANT:
You may continue to work on your computer during this part of the process. Later in Step 10 you will be required to close out of all applications, including email and Microsoft programs. There is notification of this further along in the instructions.
To begin the version 1709 upgrade:
  1. You must be plugged into the College network. You cannot use Wi-Fi for this process.
  2. Click on the Windows Start icon on the bottom left of the taskbar.
  3. Type Software Center, using the American spelling of “center”, not the British/Canadian spelling of “centre”.
  4. Click on Software Center when it appears in the menu. search software center
  5. Click Updates on the left hand menu when Software Center has opened.
  6. Click Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709. updates and click feature update to Win10 1709
  7. Click Install when the next window opens. click install
  8. A confirmation box will open to confirm the intention to upgrade. Please click Install once again. confirm upgrade box click install
  9. IMPORTANT:
    This part of the upgrade process will take at least one hour and 30 minutes. Please keep the computer plugged into the College network for the entire upgrade.
  10. Installing will appear in the Updates window.installing
  11. After the hour and a half, when this window opens, click Restart.restart after 1 hr 37 min
  12. IMPORTANT:
    Please close out of all applications, including email and all Microsoft programs at this time. You will be unable to work on your computer for the next 35 to 40 minutes through this part of the process. The system will restart several times on its own and cycle through until 100% completion. You will not need to do anything at this point.
  13. Click Restart again to continue the update.comfirm restart chance to save all work again
  14. After this upgrade section completes, the log on screen will open. You will need to log on with your College credentials, as you would first thing in the morning.
  15. NOTE:
    This last portion of the upgrade will take 5 to 10 minutes and will complete the upgrade for Windows 10 to version 1709.
Install drivers for the system

This is a necessary installation for your computer after the Windows 10 to version 1709 upgrade has completed.

NOTE:This will install the proper drivers for the system. This process will take approximately 15 minutes and you may continue to work on your computer.
  1. You must be plugged into the College network. You cannot use Wi-Fi for this process.
  2. Click on the Microsoft start button on the bottom left of the taskbar.
  3. Type Software Center, using the American spelling of “center”, not the British/Canadian spelling of “centre”.
  4. Click on Software Center when it appears in the menu. search software center
  5. Click Applications on the left hand menu when Software Center has opened.
  6. Click SSM (V2).applications ssm v2
  7. Click Reinstall or Install, whichever is there for you. Either will be correct.
  8. You will see that it is installing.installing drivers
  9. The Applications tab in Software Center will open. You will see Reinstall which is a default setting.
    Please Restart your computer at this time to complete the installation of the new drivers.
  10. Your computer will open up on your log on screen, like it would first thing in the morning. This indicates that the process is now complete.
