Q: Tell me more about purchasing a laptop.
We receive the following questions on the topic of laptops:
- Will there be laptops for sale in the campus?
- Are student discounts available?
- Can we use a Macbook?
- Could you please recommend good resources to buy laptop in Winnipeg?
We do not have laptops for sale at the college. You can purchase your laptop from any computer retailer. Please wait until you are accepted into the program and have received the most up to date Laptop Specification document before purchasing your laptop. Some retailers have student discounts when purchasing a laptop, usually requiring proof of enrolment in a post-secondary institution. We do not recommend purchasing a Macbook for ACE programs.
For questions about specific laptops please contact:

Q: Can we purchase used books?
Yes, if the book is the same (ISBN) and is the same edition then yes you can. If you purchase a different version this may not be acceptable and you may need to purchase the correct edition. At the RRC Bookstore, some books can be purchased as new, used, or digital.
Q: What is the criteria to qualify for co-op?
Students are eligible for work-integrated learning (WIL), which could be co-op or industry project, after completing all courses listed for the first three semesters of their ACE program as listed in the program catalogue.
Q: How do students connect with co-op and work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities?
ACE has a WIL Coordinator who actively looks for co-op opportunities and helps to co-ordinate work-integrated learning opportunities for students to apply for. Getting a co-op is a competitive process and that we cannot promise that every student will get one. While not every student may get a co-op, we have industry projects where students can satisfy their work-integrated learning requirement.
If you find your own co-op you need to communicate with ACE’s WIL Coordinator to gain approval for it.
Q: What is the rate of assignments given to the students in a week?
Each course and semester is different but expect to have at least one assignment per course per week to work on.
Q: Are books included in the tuition fees?
Books and Supplies are not included in program fees (tuition) and must be purchased separately.
Q: Will classes be on campus or online? What will the schedule be like? Will the classes be 4 day a week or 5 day a week?
In the Winter 2022 semester classes will run Monday to Friday between 8 and 6pm. BIT and BTM classes will be offered in a combination of online and in-person learning.
Business Information Technology (BIT)
On Campus: On Tuesdays, Wednesday mornings, and Fridays, most of your classes will be held on campus.
Online: The rest of the week (Mondays, Wednesday afternoons, and Thursdays), classes will take place online (synchronously).
Business Technology Management (BTM)
On Campus: On Mondays, Wednesday afternoons, and Thursdays, most of your classes will be held on campus.
Online: The rest of the week (Tuesdays, Wednesday morning, and Fridays), classes will take place online (synchronously).
NOTE: This change is a result of Red River College Polytechnic’s recent announcement about an increase in on-campus activities for the Winter 2022 semester.
These plans are based on current Manitoba health orders and on directives from the provincial government. If conditions change and large numbers of people are no longer allowed to gather on campus, we will return to online-only learning or make other adjustments to our plans. We will keep students updated on changes if they become necessary.
