Presidential Search Update

December 4, 2019

The Red River College Presidential Search is progressing well since its launch on October 17, 2019. The application period closed on November 8, 2019 and a significant number of applications from across Canada were received.

RRC’s position profile has attracted traditional candidates from academic settings as well as some with non-traditional backgrounds who have strong credentials. The Search Committee is now in its most time intensive and confidential phase as a series of in depth interviews has begun and potential candidates are being identified.

Due to the high level of confidentiality surrounding the Presidential Search, there will not be much information that can be shared publicly up until the announcement of the new RRC President. However, the Search Committee is very busy behind the scenes and is on track to recommend a candidate to the Board of Governors during the winter 2020.

The College continues to make progress on its Strategic Plan under the leadership of Interim President Darin Brecht. The Board of Governors appreciates the support Darin has received from College staff, government and industry stakeholders, and the community.

October 17, 2019

RRC Presidential Search Underway

As members of the Board of Governors, our focus is on the staff and students of Red River College, and our top priority is to ensure we position the College to succeed now and in the future.  Which is why today, on October 17, 2019, RRC’s Board of Governors has launched its search process for a new permanent President and CEO for the College.

The search process will be managed by a committee from the Board of Governors. This committee includes both employee and student representatives of the Board. The search committee has engaged the firm MNP to assist in this process. We are putting the long-term interests of Red River College, its students, staff and the community at the forefront of all decision making during this search.

The recruitment effort started with a discussion which included representatives of stakeholder groups and has progressed to the placement of a job posting on internal and external websites. As we go forward, the posting will be placed in targeted publications where appropriate.

Our goal is to find a leader that will work both internally and externally to accentuate Red River College’s capabilities as well as seeing its challenges and opportunities with industry and government. The successful candidate will be tasked with implementing a clear and measurable strategic plan focused on student outcomes, long-term financial and operational sustainability for the College, and an atmosphere of positive employee engagement for all College staff.

The Board will look to this leader to create a high performing culture and environment that supports quality programming and instruction aligned with the needs of Manitoba’s economy, accountable executive management and fully engaged team members, innovation in academics and business functions and accountability for educational and financial results.

We know finding the right fit takes time. Darin Brecht will continue to have our full support as he acts as Interim President and CEO of RRC in addition to his duties as Vice President of Finance and Administration with the College. He brings to RRC over 25 years of experience in strategic planning, capital budgeting, infrastructure financing, operations management, enterprise resource planning implementation and change leadership. Darin and the Senior Leadership Team will continue to provide strong leadership as we move through the search process.

The Presidential Search Committee was established by the Board of Governors on August 14, 2019 and charged with leading the Board’s efforts to select a new President and CEO. Search Firm

The Board is pleased to be working with MNP LLP who are supporting the Presidential Search Committee throughout the recruitment and selection process.

MNP started in Brandon, Manitoba over 60 years ago and is now Canada’s fifth largest accounting, tax and consulting firm. Leslie Dornan is leading the Red River College search process for MNP. She is a senior partner based in Winnipeg who leads the Manitoba consulting practice, is the regional public sector leader and is the national director of consulting services. Leslie led the recent review of the College’s Finance function. She has over 20 years of experience facilitating executive search processes. Leslie will be supported by Lillian Wong, senior manager and the leader of Manitoba’s management and professional recruitment practice.
