Drones in Education

November 30, 2017

Always at the forefront of emerging technologies in education, eTV is part of the PIF research team exploring the application of drones in education. This week eTV and research partners Eva Brown and Daryl McRae presented their initial findings, explaining how drones are becoming part of the educational landscape, and provided information, resources, and ideas for instructors and programs to provide opportunities for students to experience drones.

The team members have been researching feasibility, interest, regulations and legalities — while also becoming certified drone pilots themselves — to assist in the development of drone-based curriculum at the College. Brown says the RRC project team based its research on the New Media Consortium Horizon Report (Higher Education Edition), which forecasts the emerging technologies that will be integrated into learning within the three years. According to the 2017 report, drones are a technology that should be on the radar of educators across the world.

Microbiology Lab Panoramas

September 8, 2017

Over the past two years, eTV in partnership with the Medical Laboratory Sciences department has created immersive and interactive panoramas for three Microbiology Laboratories, showcasing different clinical environments: Red River College (educational), Westman Labs (urban), and Stonewall Diagnostics (rural). The success of these Microbiology panoramas has been recognized by students and professionals on a national scale.

The clinical setting for medical laboratory science students is diverse and unknown. Many of these spaces are restricted access to the public, so familiarizing/orienting someone to these environments is challenging. A student may not understand or comprehend the laboratories function within a rural community, which is drastically different then the tertiary facility. The panoramas allow for the exploration and understanding of these different environments that would otherwise be restricted.

RRC Academic Interest Areas Complete Video Series

July 19, 2017

“I am extremely proud to share with you the completed RRC Academic Interest Areas video series. This massive project – which took two years to complete – was made possible thanks to a tremendous partnership between RRC Marketing and RRC eTV studios. With the exception of hired voice talent and music track licensing, all work was completed using in-house personnel, equipment, and resources. Each video was carefully shot and scripted for a long shelf life, to align with and showcase RRC’s brand, and with the ultimate goal of providing prospective students from all over Manitoba and around the globe with rich media content to help them as they consider a RRC education – another set of powerful tools in our marketing and recruitment arsenal.”

– Christian Robin, Director, Marketing & Web Presence
