CARD/PIF Research Presentations

September 26, 2014

Research is a vital aspect of post-secondary education. Red River College’s commitment to research is exemplified in a new series of events, the CARD/PIF Research Presentations. This series is co-sponsored by Applied Research & Commercialization and the Centre for Teaching Excellence, Innovation and Research. The presentations will be live streamed by eTV and will also be made available on-demand on the eTV Blog: Streaming page.

The first presentation, The Google Embryo Project by Susan Crawford-Young, explores how an embryo grows and develops. Drawing on research on the characteristics of salamander embryo tissue, Crawford-Young presents her findings on the correlation between physics and embryology.

Skills Manitoba 2014

May 16, 2014

The 17th Annual Skills Manitoba Competition was held at Red River College on April 10th 2014. High school, post-secondary, and apprentice students from across Manitoba came to the college to participate in trades and technology related skill challenges. eTV recorded footage from a number of the competitions and interviewed several participants. The footage will be used as part of the Apprenticeship Project; an initiative to bring the trades to high school students through various trade area panoramas.

Apprenticeship Project

April 17, 2014

eTV is working in conjunction with TLTC to produce exploratory panoramas as part of the Apprenticeship Project. This project is being undertaken with the goal of bringing the trades to high school students. The panoramas will enable students to explore different trade areas through 360° digital imaging. The panoramas are shot with a Gigapan panoramic camera head and then the images taken are stitched together to create a 360° view of the space. Hotspots can be added to create a content-rich, interactive environment. eTV is currently working with a number of different trades, including hairstyling, carpentry, and electrical, to create panoramas of their areas.

Animal Health Technology – Horses

August 8, 2013

eTV has continued our support of the Animal Health Technology Curriculum Re-Development PIF project. Over the last few months, our crew visited Elders Equine Veterinary Service to capture footage of Dr. Chris Bell and his team working with the horses in their care. We would like to thank Dr. Bell for inviting us back on different occasions, giving us an opportunity to see a variety of veterinary services from a routine dental exam to eye surgery.

Check out a sample of some of the footage from the different shoots!

Winnispeed

June 28, 2013

On June 11th, eTV was home to Winnispeed, an exciting event featuring Joe Justice of Team Wikispeed building a car right inside our studio! The 100+ mile-per-gallon prototype car that Team Wikispeed created in just three months was built from scratch in a single day. eTV filmed the process as participants worked directly with Joe Justice to build the car and learn about Extreme Manufacturing, and how they could apply the same concepts and methodologies to their own context.
