RRC Winter Convocation 2013

February 12, 2013

For the first time ever, Red River College’s Winter Convocation was held at the Centennial Concert Hall on February 5th. This special occasion was streamed live by eTV and made available to those unable to attend the ceremony in person. We ensure that all family and friends, regardless of their location, are able to share in this moment with our graduates. eTV would like to extend our congratulations to all graduates and we look forward to providing live video accessibility for future ceremonies.

The story of Makoonsag Intergenerational Children’s Centre

January 14, 2013

Directed by Jamie Koshyk (Community Services) and produced in conjunction with eTV, this video documents the design and development of an Aboriginal child care program in the heart of Winnipeg. The video highlights the community collaboration and partnerships that helped to bring Stella Blackbird’s dream of an Intergenerational Children’s Centre to reality.

International Promo Video

November 23, 2012

The International Education promotional video produced by eTV is currently being used at student recruitment fairs around the world to excite interest in studying at Red River College and living in Winnipeg. International Project Assistant, Renata Bastos relates that thus far “the Video was really well received in China and India by students, parents and partner institutions.” eTV is confident that this video will continue to help attract many international students to Red River College as it reaches audiences globally.

Campus Master Plan Update

November 9, 2012

On Nov. 5th 2012, David Rew hosted the Campus Master Plan Update in eTV’s Studio B. eTV streamed the event live to accommodate an audience that exceeded physical capacity and for those at other campuses. In the session David discussed the updates and revisions made to the College’s Master Plan, and took suggestions from the live audience. Upon the conclusion of the event, eTV immediately made the presentation available on-demand. Viewers are invited to watch the presentation on-line and submit their own questions and comments at any time.

New Employee Orientation

November 9, 2012

eTV went mobile on Oct. 23rd 2012 to record the New Employee Orientation Information Session. For the first time, this session will be made available on-demand on Red River College’s website. Providing video on-line will increase accessibility not only for those who were unable to attend the session, but for all current and future College employees. Though these sessions are aimed at new employees, the information is relevant and important for all.

New Foyer and Touchscreen

Drop in to eTV and see the changes we’ve made to our foyer! We have created a vibrant meeting space, highlighted by a new touchscreen display that will be showcasing samples of the many diverse projects we have produced. From early childhood development to automotive, eTV has covered a lot of interesting areas. We will also feature live streaming from our Paramedicine and Nursing programs as well as special College events. Robotics: Teaching the New Skills to Compete
Mechanical, Manufacturing & Communication

Red River College opened a new robotics lab in the fall of 2011.  Instructor Shylyte Bloodworth introduced first year welders to the robots in MANU-1044 “Intro to Robotics.”  She believes a robotics program is going to open up new opportunities for the students  and new skills as the  technology rolls out into industry.

MDA: Mobile Documentation Assistant
Nursing

An  iPod Touch application was developed to help nursing students to effectively document their clinical findings at the bedside.  Instructor Tasha Holt and Instructional Designer Claudius Soodeen developed the application to  guide first year students  in learning proper documentation procedures and terminology through mobile technologies.

Focus on Service Learning: Live TV Production
Creative Arts

Second-year students representing all four streams of the CreComm (journalism, advertising, public relations and broadcasting) served as technical crew and on-air talent while broadcasting live from the Humane Society Telethon.  Instructor Joanne Kelly reorganized her COMM-3011 “Live Television Production” toward a  Service Learning model to integrate technical skills with community involvement.

A Graduation Ring: Building a Tradition
Teacher Education

Teacher Education faculty revised their 3 senior capstone courses in Graphic Design, Manufacturing and Power & Energy  to focus of the production of a Graduation Ring. The project to create a  memento of the Industrial Arts Teacher Education program as a whole, succeeded in integrating a diverse program into a single student experience.

Stevenson Aviation 10th Anniversary Air Fair

July 24, 2012


eTV Media Technician, Dylan Smitzniuk, attended the Stevenson Aviation 10th Anniversary Air Fair on Saturday June 2nd 2012 to record RRC president Stephanie Forsyth’s expression of gratitude to the family who donated a helicopter to the campus. Additional footage from the Air Fair shot by Smitzniuk will be edited by eTV staff for Red River College promotional purposes.
