Sent from Melanie Gudmundson, Chief Human Resource Officer, to all Red River College staff and students:
Yesterday evening, Red River College was advised that a member of our community tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was asymptomatic while at the Notre Dame Campus. The last time they were on-campus was Thursday, October 22 during the afternoon.
This morning, we learned that a second member of our community has also tested positive for COVID-19. This case is unrelated to the first. The individual was asymptomatic while they were on campus on Friday, October 23. Similar to the first case, their exposure was limited to one area of the campus.
Everyone at the College wishes both individuals a quick recovery.
Due to the stringent safety measures and protocols that we have in place, these situations are considered low risk. Deep cleaning, as part of our cleaning and sanitization protocols, has already occurred in the affected spaces and we’ve been able to put them back into service.
We’ve notified all individuals who were in the same space at that time of the potential exposure. They have been advised to self-monitor for symptoms and to contact Health Centre at 204-632-2238, or seek testing should their condition change. As per our protocols, their situation will be assessed prior to their return to campus. If you are not contacted by the College, you were not in an area that was potentially impacted.
We continue to work with Public Health during their ongoing investigations, and to support those who have been impacted. We will provide updates on both cases as needed. The Notre Dame Campus remains open and no other programs or services are impacted as a result of either case.
Members of our College community who have further questions, or who have been contacted by Public Health as a result of their investigation, are asked to contact the Health Centre at 204-632-2238, and we will continue to support you.
This news is never easy to share, and as we continue to navigate the changes and challenges of COVID-19, we remain committed to keeping you informed. The safety and health of our entire College community is our first priority.
Red River College has been following public health recommendations to protect against virus transmission on campus. As a result, the College has implemented many stringent health and safety protocols that meet or exceed current public health guidelines, including mandatory wearing of masks, physical distancing, cohorts to minimize exposure, staggered academic schedules, increased access to hand sanitizer, and enhanced sanitization measures for all spaces and surfaces.
As we continue to live with this pandemic, it’s important that we continue to adhere to these measures at all times in order to keep each other safe while on campus. These measures have been very effective in reducing the risk of transmission of the virus at Red River College and I appreciate everyone’s continued diligence and commitment to these principles.
Please note: in order to protect the privacy of everyone involved, the College will not share the name or any potential identifying information about any confirmed or potential case of COVID-19 to ensure that those affected can focus on their own well-being and recovery.
Updates, if required, will be provided via email and will be shared online at rrc.ca/coronavirus
