The following message was sent this evening to all Red River College faculty, staff and students from Melanie Gudmundson, Chief Human Resources Officer:
This afternoon we were advised that a third member of our community has tested positive for COVID-19. This case is unrelated to the two cases announced earlier today.
At this time, we can share the following information:
- The last time this individual was on-campus was October 19. They were asymptomatic at that time.
- Their on-campus activity was limited to one area. That area has been cleaned.
- All individuals who were in that space have been contacted, are now self-monitoring, and have been advised to contact the Health Centre should their condition change.
If you were not contacted by the College today, you were not in an area that was potentially impacted.
The cases reported today are considered low risk, however, we want to ensure that we are keeping the College community informed while protecting the identity of the individuals involved.
We continue to work with Public Health during their ongoing investigations, and to support those who have been impacted. We will provide updates on all cases as needed. The Notre Dame Campus remains open and no other programs or services are impacted as a result of any of the cases announced today.
Today’s cases are the result of transmission in the community, and are not related to one another.
While three cases in one day can seem alarming, we want to emphasize that transmission did not occur on campus. Red River College continues to follow public health recommendations and maintains stringent health measures to protect against virus transmission on campus. Our COVID-19 protocols have allowed us to respond quickly to each case, ensure our facilities are safe for faculty, staff and students, and support those who have been impacted.
Unfortunately, we know that COVID-19 community transmission is a reality right now in our province. Everyday public health advises new cases, and even though none of the cases we have shared with you today have been connected to the College, we have a large network of students and staff who live and work in our community and this is the difficult reality of the pandemic we are facing. What we will stress is that we are committed to following strict health and safety protocols outlined by public Health, and by RRC’s Safety and Health Services, and we will continue to communicate updates to you as soon as the information becomes available.
We want to commend the College community for working together and doing their part to limit the spread of COVID-19 by staying home when they are feeling ill, washing and sanitizing their hands, and wearing a mask at all times while on campus.
