The Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses

From 2002 to 2014, applied researchers at RRC’s Language Training Centre (LTC) were involved in a national multi-phase project with the research, development and implementation of CELBAN.
CELBAN is an occupation-specific English language proficiency assessment tool used to assess the threshold English language proficiency of internationally-educated nurses (IENs). CELBAN has been endorsed by nursing regulators across Canada as one of only two English language tests that IENs can use to meet language proficiency requirement, as one step on the path to license to practice nursing in Canada.

The following reports document some of the highlights from more than a decade of CELBAN-related work carried out by the LTC’s applied researchers.
