HETC

Completed in late 2009, the Heavy Equipment Transportation Centre (HETC) is one of the College’s newest buildings. This 60,000 square feet and is a unique blend of academic and industrial functions. In addition to being a premier training facility, HETC has many green building design features that reflect our College-wide commitment to sustainability.

HETC was the first LEED certified (Silver) learning facility in Manitoba. This rating system recognizes and measures various aspects of green building performance, including:

  • Selecting and developing the project site in a responsible manner
  • Taking measures to reduce potable water consumption
  • Installing energy efficiency measures
  • Choosing recycled, regional and renewable materials
  • Providing a quality indoor environment
  • And using innovative building features.

Compared to a standard building of the same size, HETC’S high-efficiency, responsive and passive heating and cooling systems results in a 50% reduction in energy use, a 72% reduction in space heating, and a 54% reduction in operating costs.
